Housing to Address Homelessness

In August 2020, the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board (VHCB) committed more than $30 million in federal funding from the CARES Act to secure and rehabilitate housing for homeless households in 18 communities around the state.

In Bennington, Shires Housing secured funds through this program to rehabilitate 15 vacant units at Orchard Village (previously Applegate Apartments) to serve families experiencing homelessness. To better support these families, we’ve also expanded our partnership with the Sunrise Family Resource Center and the Vermont State Housing Authority to provide supportive services.
