East Branch Farms

Manchester, Vermont
In 2007, twelve units of the planned 20-unit East Branch Farms condo association were built to add needed housing to the Manchester community. Unfortunately, the housing market crash struck just a year later and put a halt on construction of the last 8 units. In 2018, Shires Housing revived the plans with support from the condo association, the Vermont Housing Finance Agency, and the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board.

In two phases, Shires built the last 8 condos, including 5 affordable and 3 market-rate units. These homes were beautifully built in accordance with strict efficiency standards and were quickly snatched up by buyers. Shires worked to connect income-eligible buyers with $60,000 in downpayment assistance and additional resources.

While we don’t currently have any plans for construction of other for-sale homes, Shires was grateful for the opportunity to meet local needs in line with our mission of providing safe, decent and perpetually affordable housing options for limited income residents of Bennington County.
